Suspect Nabbed After Robbing Speedway In Oceanside

A suspect who said he was armed was apprehended shortly after allegedly fleeing the scene of a robbery at a Long Island business.

The suspect entered the Speedway gas station in Oceanside located at 2650 Long Beach Road at around 4:10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10. 

Once inside, he removed beer from the refrigerators and approached the employee, a 44-year-old man, standing behind the register. 

The suspect, identified as Edward Miles, age 55, of Oceanside, selected two packs of cigarettes that were behind the counter and placed his hand inside his sweatshirt, stating he had a gun, according to Nassau County Police. 

He then fled the scene with the beer and cigarettes.

A short time later after a thorough investigation, Miles was located at his residence and placed under arrest without further incident.

Edward Miles is charged with first-degree robbery. 

He was scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, Oct. 11, in Hempstead.
